#SHOECAMNYC, #1 | Sensible and Stylish Footwear
Footwear that is running New York City + favorites and atrocities

Greetings beautiful people, welcome to the assembly!
There has been discussion about whether New York City is the most fashionable city, which I feel like should not be a debate, because it is. Once of the things I love most about this city is witnessing how citizens utilize fashion for style, utility and comfort.
This week we are discussing footwear. Footwear is the true determinant of a chic outfit. If the footwear clashes or does not exist in harmony with the rest of the style, it can ruin the entire outfit. As I continue to live here, I notice how important footwear, and taking care of your feet is. In a walkable city that prioritizes style, the merging of the two can seem difficult but it does not have to be. Sensible footwear can be cute, although this is a hard line to balance. This addition of #ShoeCamNYC is about sensible yet stylish footwear.
Disclaimer: Let me note that these photos are for research purposes only, that this is not some strange fetish or anything nefarious, I just love shoes! As a Carrie… it’s just in my DNA unfortunately. If I see a good shoe, my apologies in advance if it is weird, but I am going to take a photo. Inspiration exists everywhere and going back to my Venusian upgrading post (hyperlinked here) it is important to take photos of things that spark joy and inspire you, AS LONG AS IT IS NOT used for harmful reasons. I do not condone recklessly snapping photos or recording of strangers and make sure I do not include faces, or if I do, asking their permission first.
Now that is out the way, let’s get into the #SHOECAMNYC!
Loafers, specifically Prada

Loafers are the perfect shoe for either casual or elevated outfits. They are extremely versatile and look amazing on but I’m realizing they may not be the most comfortable for all day or long-term wear. The rubbing on the heel and the numerous blisters that can come from loafers are irritating. Then, I saw the soft padded Nappa leather loafers Prada Monolith loafers while walking in Manhattan and felt a shift happen in my life. I really loved the puffed leather and how soft and comfortable they looked. It was an unconventional take on usual loafers, that I felt dressed them down but allows for some elevation. The chunky sole is so cute to me too, I desperately need a pair of these loafers.
Sneakers

Sneakers are just a classic option for a dressed down, comfortable shoe. I especially love the Margiela tabi sneakers, but if you put a tabi on any shoe I more than likely will like it. I saw these denim Air Jordans on the train one time and I was thoroughly surprised by how much I loved them. Personally, Air Jordans are not my typical choice for sneakers, but I do love a high-top sneaker made from materials that are not conventional for footwear. I also like simplicity in my footwear, and especially my sneakers. I saw these Christian Dior high-top sneakers that really caught my eye, because they were so simple yet effective. Sometimes there can be a lot going on with shoes that distracts from an outfit, but when the sneakers are the statement, you style around them. I saw these Louis Vuitton LV skate sneakers and really loved them. The thick laces remind me of rope, and that is so important to assure they do not untie (fixing untied shoelaces on the streets of NYC is one of my biggest pet peeves).
Tabi / Margiela Mania

You likely will see tabis in many of the other sections of #ShoeCamNYC. Tabi mania has taken over New York City and let me say I have been experiencing increased tabi mania as well. Love them or hate them, tabis are a fashion staple, thank you Maison Margiela. It is no surprise that I love a tabi shoe, especially from Maison Margiela, but I have a confession to make. For manifestation purposes I DO own, multiple pairs of tabis but they are still materializing to be in my possession in physical reality. Meaning… as of this letter, I do not own a pair of tabis (it pains my heart to confess this, but this will not be the case for long). I have longed… yearned to fill the tabi shaped hole in my heart for years, and the tabis I have seen around the city have not helped. The rounded heel on Margiela shoes seems so sturdy and it is a detail I am obsessed with. Sometimes I have to stop myself from foaming at the mouth looking at the painted calf high tabi boots pictured first. I also saw these Margiela tabi menswear cowboy boots at Tokio7 and have been obsessed with them. A must have for the man who loves elevated fashion in their footwear.
Flats, Ballet Flats

Ballerina coming from dance practice is an aesthetic I admire, and a structured ballet flat really warms my heart. They are so versatile and very trendy. Ankle high white socks with a black ballet or strappy flat is an elite combination. The two tabi flats are so cute. I especially love the glittery tabi flat with the exposed heel, these were so campy and magical. The ribbons added a fun touch that added character to the shoe - these shoes are a wearable personality trait.
Boots Galore

A good boot can carry you through some of the toughest weather (especially rain… get some good boots that can withstand rain and snow) and the dirtiest of streets. Telfar logo vegan leather boots in this beautiful brown color way really brightened my day when I saw them in BK. I have also been obsessed with these emerald cowboy boots, with the industrial sole since I’ve seen them. If anyone knows who makes them or can help with sourcing, let me know so I can have these in my closet. These Chanel combat boots are also so chic, I really loved how the classic Chanel motifs blend so well with the combat boot style. The double C ankle cuff is so hard, I really loved these.
Balenciaga Platform Crocs?!
I realized my taste and I as a being are changing when I saw these platform Balenciaga rubber mules in 2nd Street and loved them. I have been seeing rubber mules across the city as a sensible casual shoe to wear when running errands and honestly, I have joined the cult of the mule. They are so comfortable! I am realizing that a comfy, casual fit whether it be athleisure or a mix of that and elevated pieces are still valid outfits and can be very fashionable. That may sound like a pointed statement, but I was a notorious athleisure hater until I got to the point of my life where I realized comfortable clothes are a priority sometimes. I like the hardware on these rubber mules, adding an edgy element to the usual mule style that makes it interesting. I’d wear these with baggy sweatpants and a hoodie that looks shrunken by the wash - in true Demna Balenciaga/Vetements fashion.
Whatever these are…?
I have no idea what is going on here, but these are definitely… unique! Shoes made for a multitude of purposes. DIY Balenci-Adidas-cowboy-sneakers? I had to share because these blew my mind and broke my brain.
